Unfortunately, I can't make the opening night (got stuck in wrong continent), but I assure you it'll be worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

The Animated Journal will be showing sometime somewhere.

New Method

I have joined posterous (http://burningfp.posterous.com/) so posts here will be coming from there from now on...I think.
We'll see how it goes, I've been persuaded by some internet guru's to give it a go.

Two Sided Week

1. Good Thing.

The Animate Journal was featured on the excellent 4mations website. They said:

"I’m not really sure what to make of Paul’s animated experiments but there is something hypnotic and mesmerizing about these snippets of life. It’s like dipping a toe in somebody else’s sensorial experience, vaguely voyeuristic without the seedy Big Brother connotations. Which is a good thing, because somehow I doubt an animator’s lifestyle could compete with the glossy glamour of watching a Z-list celebrity painting their toenails."

2. Not So Good Thing

The promising 5lights tumblr project ended this week. It was shaping up to be something very special, and I was due to be a Monday person on it for a month around autumn. I've started concocting four "pieces" and may follow through with these anyway.

All the best to Lou Noble and Katie West for their future projects.

Enjoy August.

Big Ups

It has been Web Comics Week on Warren Ellis ' WhiteChapel forum. It's well worth checking out, with pages of recommendations, most of them excellent.

And due to my Mad-Skills-in-Twitterland I managed to get "Horticultural Fudge" on page 1.

"Horticultural Fudge" also got a mention on the mighty Austin Kleon's Tumblelog recently.

Speaking of Tumblelogs, RattleBag is now listed under animation, artist and comics. in the new Tumblr directory.

Many thanks to all.

Start as You Mean To Finish (and then carry on)

From now on, I 'll only post on here when I've made something.
I continue to post to my Tumble-log and Twitter of course.
You can still contact me at my email.
Much Love

Plans

I am planning on posting here again, I am, honest.  Currently considering ways of streamlining the process to end up with content that is actually readable.

Tumblr is much easier to post to, just one click, and I am loving that format, and have built a reasonable following over there.  But often the results are undecipherable for a person who does not actually use it.

Wordpress is able to take automatic feeds, but frankly the idea of automating stuff frightens me beacause you never know how it'll actually look when it goes up.

Eventually I'll get there and this blog will be the useful tool I've been planning.

Hourly Comics Day 2

First thing next morning looking over it, it didn't turn out as I expected, I meant to do it all myself, but chores and parental stuff took over, and once the children had seen what i was doing they all wanted to do it themselves.

So the experience has been great for three reasons:

1). Introducing me to the idea of diary comicing again. something I'd like to keep trying, because I do believe it helps fluency.

2). My wife really got into drawing her bit, and was inspired to do the "butterfly parade" page at the end there. That made her very happy.

3). Introducing my children to the idea of drawing comics. They've seen me sitting about drawing in little books, but was great to invite them in and then see them taking part.

My Eldest was so inspired, she ended up continutng her own spin-off-cross-over piece I'll attach below.

So we all had a full day and a great time doing the comic, hopefully I'll be on board next year.

cheers then

PG

Progress

I've taken a break from posting on here, to regroup a bit, get some perspective.

I have discovered that trying to use this site to blog comics is a gross arse pain, and pointless, when there are many places purpose built for such an enterprise.

So I'll stop doing that.

I've been working in CGI Animation for some time now, but still feel like I know very little (compared to what I feel I should know) about it, film making or making comics. I always seek to learn new things, stretch my abilites, so I'm ready (because if you're always ready, you never have to get ready, right?).

So this blog will become a kind of progress report, and place to share what I learn. And as I say, it won't just be animation related, film making and comics will find a place here too.

I continue to tumble sources of inspiration, and twitter ill advised sentiments expressed in moments of weakness.

Horticultural Fudge

...is finished now, and is in new easy-to-read format on my tumblr, here.

Tumblr is a micro-blogging system where I post found stuff of various kinds in a much more instinctive and ill-thought out manner than on here.

Too Art For TV

I'm having some work shown at the excellent "Too Art For TV" exhibition held at Erebuni, 158 Roebling Street, Williamsburg, New York. The opening is a week today (6-9pm 5th Dec)and the exhibition runs from 5th until the 15th Dec. The idea is to show work by industry animators who do art on the side:
"Erebuni is pleased to present Too Art for TV 3, the third annual group exhibition showcasing the fine art expressions of the animation industry. Twice before, this show has drawn in excited, elbow-to-elbow crowds of artists, illustrators, filmmakers, animators, and fans of animation. This year’s exhibit, now the biggest one in Too Art for TV’s history, features 36 artists who- by way of toys, prints, paintings, sculptures, and experimental film- will set free their skills otherwise "owned" by television networks bosses."
If you're in town please check it out. You can see from the website that there'll be lots of exciting stuff to see, made by people far more talented and interesting than myself.

I'm not religious but...

Arse!

I've been away and my auto-post thingy didn't work. Better late than never I suppose.

This post is for Blog Action Day, I did one last year, so I thought I'd do another, here goes:

One Hundredth Person

My Tumble Log is an ongoing collection of interesting stuff I stumble across on the internet, a commentary-free, instinctive train of randomness. It's very self indulgent, and mainly focuses on alternative comics, interesting animation and new music, because that's what I like, but the main aim is not to think it through too much, and just go with what feels right, because, as I may have mentioned before, I don't have much spare time to lark about on the internet.
One hundred people have now seen fit to follow what goes on this tumblelog, which is very humbling, and also makes me feel slightly frightened, in a nice way, though.
Thanks to you 100 strangers for the support.
You can also find it on Tumblr's Artists page.
Trumpet blowing ended.
